Happy Hump Day

I'm so happy to be halfway through the week. I'll be even happier tomorrow night when my work week is over. And get this... I have an actual, honest-to-goodness DATE for Friday night. I don't think I even remember what people do on dates. I'm sure it will all come back to me, though.

You guys might remember the whole move-in fiasco at the end of August, when some other guy "accidentally" moved into my apartment. I've been noticing for the past few weeks that his bike has not been chained to the fence out front, and I haven't seen him coming or going like I used to. I wonder if he's even living there anymore? I know he was refusing to pay the rent because the Apartment People promised him (and promised me, too) an in-unit washer and dryer which never materialized. I could see knocking a little off the rent to pay for a laundromat (I talked the landlord down $30 a month for just that reason), but not paying any rent at all? Mistake. I wonder if he left of his own volition, or if he was evicted. Not that I care much one way or the other; it's just an interesting turn of events.

I'm not liking this NaBloPoMo thing...

Some days I genuinely have nothing interesting today. I had a migraine most of the day (too much fun and not enough sleep this weekend). That's it. See, not very interesting. I'm going to take some Excedrin & call it a night.

Problems with Facebook minifeed

Two weeks ago, I contacted LJ tech support with a problem: my LJ entries are not showing up on my Facebook minifeed. Well, I finally got a response:

Thank you for your report. LiveJournal developers have been made aware that there is an issue with entries in personal journals not posting to Facebook, and are working to correct it. Once a fix is made, an announcement will be made in lj_releases [http://community.livejournal.com/lj_releases/profile]. You may wish to watch this community so that you will be made aware when this is corrected.

It took them two weeks to come up with that response?

Mulder & Scully

One meeting, two field trips, three classes...

And one exhausted instructor.

Meeting was boring, first class of the day uneventful. For my Digital Imaging I class, we went to Chicago Ave and Lessing to view some murals under the viaduct. This is in preparation for the students' final projects; they are going to be designing their own murals in Photoshop. (They love the idea, [info]lala_luvyou—thanks again!)

Then I took my Designing for Multimedia Display class to Motorola for a lecture on designing multimedia apps for mobile devices. I think most of them enjoyed the lecture. More importantly, they seemed to get it.

It was a good day. But now I am le pooped.

Late for Tuesday's NaBloPoMo entry

Wednesday is going to be a long day. We have an early-morning meeting at the Illinois Institute of Art about the recent push to unionize the school. And I'm getting sick of hearing about it. I'm tired of people asking me how I intend to vote, especially when no one has been able to give me any concrete information whatsoever on which to base my decision.

Oh, great, one of the cats just barfed....

Tonight's NaBloPoMo entry

I don't have much to say, except that I've decided to get a digital camera. I'm not going to get a digital SLR, because removable lenses mean more things for me to potentially lose and/or break. I've been doing the research, and I have a camera picked out. It's an eight megapixel camera that was rated highly by Consumer Reports. My only question is, what color do I want? :)

Birthday introspective

As my 35th year on this planet comes to an end, I thought I'd take stock in what I've accomplished this year:
  • Finished grad school.

  • Got my artwork published in a literary magazine.

  • Had my short experimental video chosen as a featured selection for both the Citywide Film School Showcase and the Landlocked Film Festival in Iowa City.

  • Finally got up the guts to end a disastrous marriage.

  • Eliminated a couple of people who were nothing but emotional drains.

  • Moved into a great apartment.

  • Started my dream job.

  • Volunteered for a candidate I really believe in... and watched him win the White House!

This was the best year of my life, by far. And the next year is going to be even better!

Good morning, Mr. Breakfast!

You Are Danishes

Indulgent and a bit greedy, you eat whatever you feel like eating... nutrition be damned.

You have a total sweet tooth, and you pretty much give into it whenever you feel like it.

While it treating yourself is nice occasionally, try eating a vegetable every once and a while.

Lay off the donuts and muffins, unless you want to be sporting a "muffin top" of your own!

Not good.

I found a dead cockroach in the filter of the cats' water dish. I haven't seen any other roaches. Gods, I hope this doesn't mean I have an infestation I didn't know about.... :P

I was a witness to history

Last night I headed home early with the intent of watching the election returns from the comfort of my living room. But as the night went on, and Obama's numbers went higher, I realized that something momentous was about to occur, and that I didn't want to watch it from the sidelines. So a little after 8pm, I headed down to Grant Park for Barack Obama's election night rally. My friend Karl and his wife and brother were heading that way, too, so I met up with them at the Belmont stop, and we made the trek to the Loop together. Everyone on the packed train was singing and chanting "Obama! Obama!"

Grant Park was crowded, but not as crowded as I'd expected. And the crowd was very orderly. There was a pleasant, mellow vibe. We were watching CNN election returns on a Jumbotron screen at Michigan Avenue. Suddenly, at ten o'clock, the news caught everyone off-guard: OBAMA WINS! The crowd went nuts. We watched John McCain's concession speech (very classy, BTW), and then Obama's acceptance speech. It was amazing to me that one hundred thousand people from all ethnic and social backgrounds, of all races and all walks of life, were for one night united in a common cause. It felt great to be a part of something so historic (and even better knowing that as a campaign volunteer I'd helped get the word out).

I will never forget the night of November 4, 2008, when we as a nation made history.

Black cat new

I wish they'd make up their minds

Night classes at the Illinois Institute of Art have been cancelled:

Marc Realty, who owns the property at 180 N Wabash, has decided to lock the doors at 5:00 p.m. today due to the rally in Grant Park. Individuals will be able to exit the building, but will not be able to enter the building without a pass. Due to these circumstances, it has been decided to cancel the evening classes at the Loop campus only.

They sent this out today after noon. Talk about waiting until the last minute!

I still have to go in for my Interactive Design class. I wonder how many students will actually be there.
